Went to BMW of Nashville yesterday to see a Carbon Black paint, not one on the lot and a bunch of new 08's. The salesman said he had not seen one either. I thought this was probably the new hot color, maybe not. The swatch in the brochure makes it look almost gray/blueish. Those of you who own one, how would you compare it to the regular black or the black saphire?

It?s quite blue in some light, such as direct sunlight. Otherwise can appear black. Incredible color. Not gray at all.

It?s a rather exclusive color, only available on the 550i with Sportpaket in the U.S.

thats odd, mos dealers ive been to lately ONLY have CB 550s on the lot. Its a unique color to enthusiasts, but to others its pretty much just black.

In addition to black in sunlight, and blue in other light, it can also look like gunmetal gray, particularly on cloudy days.

It's sort of neat, in that you're never quite sure what color your car will be today.

I agree as I like the chameleon aspect to it but I haven't seen gunmetal gray yet.

if you remember liquid ink in a bottle - it's depends on how the light hits and is reflected off the car. Great color, you won't be disappointed!!!

BTW, when I said gunmetal gray, I was reffering to the blue-black color from the black oxide coating on gun barrels. It looks black at first glance, but careful inspection will show it to be deep blue.
