sounds like the final stage resistor. if you're under warranty, nothing to worry about. if you're not, it's not a particularly expensive part (<$150), although I'm not sure if it's easy to get to. it's under the passenger side dash.
Thanks for that suggestion. Not sure I'm up to accessing this through the dash though. Car is out of warranty, but sometimes a guys gotta do what a guys gotta do $$$.

Last week dealer quoted $200.00 to diagnos AC blowing warm air on startup. The $200.00 would be rolled into cost if problem found, if no problem found I pay $200.00 . I told him I can live with 3min of warm air and left.

I have after market warranty thru this dealer.

I'm just not feeling the love and see any of the toothy grins that were all around me when I puchased in NOVEMBER!

+1 Dealer time.

I had the same thing happen to me (car was <2K old)....the fault was the a/c control module. Replaced under the original warranty..no problems since then. G/L with yours though...

if you still in warranty then take it to the dealer, i had this problem a few months ago, almost the same thing my AC was like goin on and off with me, sometimes i cant turn it on, and most of the time it goes on and off by itself, Icheck everything , the timer was off so thats not problem, took it to the dealer and they updated the IDrive, and everything worked out ok, the good thing about the update now i have the updated IDrive i think its for the 09 model, i have an 06 GL and keep us posted

Hi, I've just joined the forum and wondered whether you had solved your problem? I have a 530d, Auto which is losing battery charge and heater fans only work at one speed even when you turn up or down.. I've looked around on the web and people are talking about the 'final stage resistor'???? Any help would be appreciated

I've had this happen once. AC did not blow air no matter what settings I did. The next day all came back.

I also had this happen to my steering wheel (did not move), my passenger mirror (did not go down), and to Sub (on one side). All sympthoms dissapear after a while. I thought it might be battery. I changed the battery, now I have passenger mirror frozen again. No idea what it is. It could be software bug
