I'm searching for insurance for my 545i in NJ. I've got a perfectly clean record, but since I'm "only" 30 years (I thought I was plenty old, but apparently being 30 is still young enough to jack up rates), I haven't found a rate less than $2500. Can anyone recommend some cheap insurers? Thanks!

Your best bet is to accept this $2500 for the first 6 months if you cannot find something better, I was 20 when I bought an Audi (druing the time I lived in the US). I paid about the same amount to Progressive. When I finished the first 6 months I joined State Farm (at the time they didn't have a policy which allows you to start with them, only transfer) they gave me a rate of $1200 (full insurance). When I turned 21 they sent me a B-day card and a check of $200.
My point is that with a clean record and State FarmI was eventually paying a little bit bellow $600 for full insurance on a german car and I was only 22 when the rate dropped.
I suggest you try your luck with them.

Jeez... and I thought 1200 bucks a year was insane! Any claims at all? I had an animal hit a few years ago, and that jacked mine up a bit when I changed companies. Windshield here or there can increase your premium.

fuenfer: You need to realize that NJ has some of the highest auto insurance rates in the country. Many major insurers, like State Farm, will not even do business here. I pay about $2000 per year here and also have a clean record. It was pretty cool, however, that it was only $20 or $30 more per year than my '00 540i. If your employer is a member of the New Jersey Manufacturers' Association, they have their own insurance company and can get you better rates. If you live in NJ, forget about cheap auto insurance. Sorry.

You need to get into NJM otherwise you're going to have a hard time. I'm paying over $500 less per year than AllState quoted me for 6 months. Hah!
For those curious it's about $1750/yr. And that's not counting the yearly dividend NJM pays out.

Although.. I believe NJ rates are getting better than they used to be. On my renewal next year I'm expecting sub $1500/yr. Maybe i'm nuts...

And it also depends on your deductables. For me I took $200 comp and $1000 collision.

I used to live there, too! (Puns '92). Quite honestly, I found O'ahu to be stifling -- I definitely like the fact that I can take a drive longer than two hours without having to come back to the same place. I'll move back when I'm 60 years old.

I pay about $1,560.00 a year here in Germany. Insurance with a US company. Give USAA a try.
