I've really never heard of anybody 'normal' driver doing it.? I would assume if you're normally driving your car, you're probably safer having it spec'd for normal.

As I said here in Europe it is normal for 5 years already. Every little tire shope has nitrogen. one wheel like 2bucks. Everybody drives with it. It is the same like putting gas to your car. Just really no big deal. It is totaly normal like piece of bread
Right. And I think that guy with the huge number, Avogadro, gets some credit in there somewhere too.
Avogadro's number does figure in. And I almost forgot Charles. It is actually the combination of Boyle's law and Charles's law that make up the universal gas law. Have to give credit where it's due.

nitrogen molecules migrate 3 to 4 times more slowly than oxygen
Anyway, I think the reason air (~79% N2 and 21%O2 with trace other) is less stable has to do with the reactivity of oxygen compared to nitrogen. e.g. Some of it might oxidize iron converting it to rust or might react with the organic molecules contained in the rubber tires.

The following is claimed:
Better road holding
Longer tread life, up to 25% increase
Reduced fuel consumption, up to 5% reduction
No corrosion to the inside of the wheel

My Ride: Nothing to boast about!
N2 is very common here. A lot of outlets charge only the 1st pump (something like USD6/tire), and from there on it's free top up at any of the chain's outlets.
I have noticed one very distinct difference when I travel long distance. There's less bounce after a couple of hours high speed drive. And I only need to pump every few months. The variation is something like 0.05psi.
Thereotically N2 is more inert and is larger in particle size; hence doesn't expand as much and does not leak as much. There's other like no moisture, less corrosion but I don't think I will see that benefit in the life time of the wheels.
