One thing I've always wondered about the NV display is how does it look when another car passes you in the opposite direction and they've also got NV. Do you get to see their IR beams blinding you via your NV display? Also, do you see the IR beams of things like store entrace IR detectors ?
I'm no expert on FLIR technology but I don't think the car emits any beams... Then again, I don't think I've ever actually passed a car in the opposite direction with NV. If I did, I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.

Damn, that's a good question! I'll give it a try sometime and report here.

No. I had a good look at it and nothing was visible even in complete darkness.

Maybe Rudy is correct then in his assumption that they don't emit IR to illuminate the way ahead. I always just figured they'd have to.

Still thinking these cameras don't need to emit any infrared light -- they are purely thermographic, not active like some of the shorter-range applications like night-vision goggles, low light video surveillance cameras, etc.

I very much like your inputs taxikusken

As the weather has been over here rainy and very dark, I can imagine the night vision would be great to have.

The standard fog lights with the Xenons are a laugh. Sorry to say 'cause I could really use some good ones right now.
