Canon DLSR's can do this automatically its called AEB. Nikon DSLR cameras can be set up to take up to 9 bracketed shots at different exposures.

Combining them is called HDR, I think someone else mentioned that earlier on in the thread.
Thanks, but I am actually talking about a different technique that retains the detail, doesn't create the noise/contrast/ghosting issues that a photo 'blender' (tonal mapper) such as Photomatrix makes and still allows you to individually edit each photo before, during and after to get the desired effect.

And yes, I am using a Canon DSLR with my AEB....

Cheers

Nice pics, Antti. I've never had much luck at night, but I don't have a nice camera to even make a go of it.

Thanks!

I've tried doing HDR pics but I haven't got any good results yet. I have to learn to use the programs better.
If you can upload the unedited exposures of one of the last photos in front of the garage, say the 3rd last one, I'll do an example of what I mean.

Cheers

Whats this technique then?
I use AEB then combine the images in photoshop CS4. Not much good at it yet though I must say.

Whoa!
I took some pics again today, tried Photomatix Pro (evaluation version) once again, and got a decent result! Not posting the pic here though, it's just an experiment. I just haven't got very good results with it earlier.

I think I'm going to buy the Pro version... It would be 99$. Worth it ?
