My Ride: 2008 535xiT (E61) Black Sapphire / Black Leather / bamboo. Steptronic, Full Aero Kit, 35% Tints. 18" Run Flats. All the goodies short of Active Cruise, Comfort Access and the safty options. 2002 BMW R1150R. Red, Corbin, PIAAs, Fiamm,
Smile

So, the car is less than 2 weeks old and on my way in this morning, an idiot taxi driver cuts me off and I bang my wheel against the curb avoiding him.

The front passenger side rim now has a dent. I have 18" run flats and I bought the tire/wheel insurance.

Before I call the dealer, I was hoping you guys could tell me if there are any "key phrases" I should avoid when talking to my dealer.
How does the insurance work in general?

Thanks for the help

I've only had claims for tires (nail punctures) but I would not mention the taxi and curb story as they might try to say this should be a claim against your auto insurance instead. I know in my case that replacing a wheel would still be less than my deductible so I would pay out of pocket. Just tell them you hit a nasty pothole...

Thanks. I think you're right, no need to go into details.

If for some reason BMW does not want to cover your repair or you just want to handle it yourself. I think member C's Bimmer is in your area and knows of a good wheel repair service for a good price....

But I have insurance that they sold me just for this reason. Why do you think I should just buy it?

I have tire/wheel insurance on my 2005 FX35, 2006 330i, and my new CPO 2005 545i. From my understanding, the insurance usually will only cover the tires if got nail(run flat). For bubbles on the side wall, usually will not be covered.

For wheels, cosmetic issue like curb rash, chip, ding will not be covered. They will only pay for the wheel unless it was bend or damages which cannot hold air. In addition, the insurance company will send someone over to inspect the wheel or when you claim more than 1 tire at once before you will get reimbursed.

2005 545i sport, auto, navi, premium sound, cold weather, V1 hardwire, Phillips 6000k d2s, PIAA turn signal/back up bulbs, silverstar/mtec fog bulbs, Sprint Booster, ACS trunk/roof spoiler(coming soon), Hartge front lip spoiler(coming soon).

I just called and my sales guy says it covers up to $3000 in damage.
He also said off the bat, without me saying a thing not to mention curbs.
I'm expecting a call from service, will keep you guys updated.

=======================

I had just bought my BMW OEM M5 166 rims, and one week after having them inststalled by BMW South service dept. When I got my BMW back, I felt good, and went out to lunch, and I nicked a curb, and it made me sick!, See I had no insurance on rim dings, (just tire insurance), so I had to pay out of pocket $80.00 for a "BMW Wheel Medics" rim repair service here in Atlanta GA to do the work.

Like most people, I had my doubts could they make it look like new again? But Yes they did, and those guys did an excellent job, and it has been a year now, and my 166s still look like brand new, and you could never tell it had been curbed.

I said this to you because I know how sick this can make you feel, and in case your insurance squawks about paying, and then you might want to try this route before shelling out 400.00+ for a new BMW OEM replacement rim.

I wish you the best!
