Just watched a clip on TV of the new 3 series. I absoolutely loved the interior. It's similar to the E60, but with more flare, especially in this color combo. I was surprised how much sportier and driver oriented it appeared over the pics I had seen. Can't wait to see it person next Saturday.

One thing to mention, someone said the Idrive would only control the Navigation. I do not believe that is true. According to the clip I saw, there were options for Climate, Communications, Entertainment and Navigation just like the E60.

[quote name='ISUK' date='Feb 25 2005, 01:19 PM']I'm told by a source inside BMW that the interior of the new 3 actually costs less than that of the E60 to manufacture. It is the perception of quality that makes it feel subjectively better and the design of certain elements such as the driver and passenger door interior styling which flow more cohesively than the E60. I saw a terra interior E90 which is more or less comparable to the auburn interior on my E60. The leather is a few shades darker but looks very similar. The interior of the E90 just looked a whole lot classier than my car and more like a compromise between the E46/E39 interior styling mixed with elements of the E60 - upper half of the dash and centre armrest area.

As my E60 is one of the earlier cars (Sept 03 build) it doesn't have some of the minor upgrades such as ruthenium climate control dials and asoft touch paint on some surfaces. However, the look of the plastics used on the interior door coverings of the E90 is noticeably better than the E60 which I don't think has changed since my car was built.

Each time I look at the interior door side pockets I imagine I am in a Korean car
built in the last century.

I think the door trim on the E60 is featureless and looks cheap, also the dashboard doesn't seem to flow as well as the old E39 such as where the door trim meets the dash in a blunt way. I don't think the E90 is any better as it looks the same. I do like the LED readout heater system though. I would imagine that anyone who orders an E90 without I - Drive will regret it at a later date.
