News from Geneva
For our European friends: the 550i Sport.
Pure driving pleasure: BMW 5 Series Edition Sport.
The BMW 5 Series Edition Sport is unusually dynamic and muscular in its looks and style. In this case the athletic lines of the body are accentuated by powerful colours, for the first time offering the customer the choice of Imola Red and Le Mans Blue inspired by motorsport over and above the other colour options.
Further features are the M Sports Suspension, 18-inch M light-alloy wheels in dual-spoke design, an M Streamlining Package, and high-gloss Shadow Line on the side window surrounds and window shaft covers on the Edition Sport 5 Series.
The interior comes with appropriately matched colours and interior trim in aluminium. The sports seats, in turn, are finished as standard in Flashlight, a unique combination of cloth and leather or, as an option, in Dakota leather. Comfort seats are also available as an option, and the roof lining in Anthracite, an M footrest, an M leather steering wheel and ? on manual gearbox models ? an M gearshift lever knob round off the sporting impression.
Imola Red
And LeMans Blue! Hopefully those colors will make their way Stateside.
Here she is in Carbon Black.

And the interior looks fantastic with all that M gear and whatever Flashlight is.

Thanks for the effort on the nice post and for the photos. Just beautiful. My questions may be silly- but is that a 2008 or 2009? Is the "Sports Edition" you mentined the same as ordering the Sports Package at the time of ordering? Do you know if that 550i trunk lid is identically shaped as the 535i trunk lid? If it is different, how? Thanks for your time.

the sports edition doesn't look any different than a 550i with sports package except for the different car paint and interior trim.
also one thing they said about the "18-inch M light-alloy wheels in dual-spoke design", it seems that whoever wrote this is mistaken since all M-172s are 19 inch, not 18s.

wow, they're coming out with a 540i now?
the rims are most likely the m135 18 inch that is part of the msport pack in europe now not the m172s

the sports edition "sucks" big time - you are made to pay for things you dont want to pay (such as metallic paint) and you are limited to other options you coul/want to take. this is why i am in an hurry to order my car before i am made to by these editions.
there are two other editions apart from the sports edition...

agree -- I checked it out on the BMW Deutschland car configurator. Nice to have extra colours, but the Edition models do limit your options/flexibility on what you can combine. I'm glad I ordered mine at the end of last year... big discount on the m-sport pack for 520d/525d orders placed before year-end and a further 16% discount overall -- which was nice.
still looking forward to seeing Imola Red in person...
As for ConnectedDrive, that is an additional service you can order from BMW. I have just activated it on mine, but have not tried using the email and internet services yet -- not even sure if it will work with the Business Nav? So far I have just been using the extra traffic information the service provides -- unfortunately it still doesn't make it disappear! It does however give more regular updates and accurate info, including fixed & mobile Radar / Speed Trap warnings that are accurate
