Took my car in yesterday to have the recall done and also have the newest software installed that was going to fix my rough start up issue. This was recomended to me from the rep from BMWNA that got in contact with me after reading my issues here on the forums. I got a call this morning that the car was finished but that the software wasnt updated because the current version doesnt fix the rough start up. I went to pick up the car, and happened to see the service manager, he looked at my paperwork and asked me if I could leave the car for 3-4 more days, so that he could remove the DMS and send it in to have a newer software update installed which is not currently available at the dealerships. Of course I said yes, since I have a BMW loaner and would like to have the car fixed properly. I wonder were he is sending the DMS and which version software this will be. Anyone else hear of this?

Thanks, but that is one problem I DO NOT have. Every so often the car will not start when I hit the button - it just goes to "radio readinesss" - but it's just (maybe) because I didn't hit the start button square enough.

I'm going to hang for a couple more weeks, continue to keep track of faults and go back to the dealership and do the update dance again. The problem is the 23.1 should have fixed my problems - some of them were known - but it didn't. At least I want these documented well in my car's records for future warranty issues.

I'll get back here and post what happens.

Regards.

Good news....My new 550i has started rough since I bought it. I took it into the dealer in Annapolis last week where two BMW engineers from NJ were examining another 550i with the same problem. I left the car (for a week) while they took the DME back to NJ for tweaking and reprogramming. The "Beta" s/w worked great - when I started it this mornings it sounded like a BMW instead of a P-51. And, after driving the loaner 330i for a week I gained a much greater appreciation for my 550. Recommend you ask your dealer if the fix is out everywhere now.

Apparently there's another program out in December, which will also address some of the cold start issues.

Its out already, just not at the dealers, seems like its at the VPC. Two of us have had our DMS removed and shipped to NJ for re-program.

Seems like DMS was programmed to run lean most of the time which also leads to my pinging issue
Once DMS is program gas mileage is going to get worse , but I'd take that as a price to pay for better gas response, hopefully!

So, is it going to make E60 faster? I need it. My 550 is painfully slow compared to my old 545.
