Newbie's impressions
#12
Thanks for the warm welcome. I do not mean to be overly critical about the xi model(auto)which drove fine but driving a few of the cars back to back at the dealerships in Maryland around a few turns and then punishing it around a roundabout gave me a little incite into how the cars reacted. It could very well be that many of the CPO cars were sitting for awhile and the air pressure in the xi may have been low. It is like going to Bestbuy and trying to judge which TV looks better under florescent light and someone who already tampered with the settings.
In regard to the 530i vs 525i I actually felt the initial pick up and snappiness of the 525i exceed my expectations for a car that will mostly do city driving. On the highway it has plenty of passing power and is rock stable compared to my Spyder.
One thing I noticed which I found particularly interesting is that the tire pressure for the front is rated to be 28psi compared to the other models which is over 30psi. This leads me to conclude that the E60 which was engineered by using aluminum up front to achieve a 50/50 weight balance for most of its heavier variants has left the lighter 525i to have a rear weight bias.
One thing that I forgot to mention is that I have driven the competition and some of those cars were junk like the hyped up Super handling all wheel drive RL which felt like an 80s caddy around the corners.
Being an owner of a light weight roadster that is geared strictly for handling I knew that the e60 is not a sports car but it does in fact retain many of the visceral traits that make it rewarding to drive.
v_therussian thanks for the advice on the RPI scoop.
