Unhappy

I've had my '06 550i for a couple of weeks now(New to BWM and loving it btw), and just had a couple of questions..........

1. What is the actuator with vac line thats mounted on the muffler? My guess would be that there is a flapper that stays closed/ part closed under normal conditions, and opens all the way under WOT?

2. With the staggered RFT's can I rotate side to side...or are the tires directional? Since you can't rotate front to back, back to front, are there wear issues?

3. What is "Acceleration Assistant"? Does it apply to the Steptronic Tranny? I read about it in the owners manual, but it was kinda vague as far as setting the "ideal start-off engine speed".

4. Does everyone wait to change their engine oil when the i-drive tells you too? I've always changed my oil every 3-4k miles.....so waiting 10k plus miles seems kinda excessive to me.....but I've never owned a bimmer, so maybe it's ok?.

I'm sure I'll have more questions......but thats it for now!
Thanks

0. Congrats!

1. Yup. will open during WOT or a little less than WOT.

2. they're directional so if you want to rotate you'll have to dismount and remount them on the new side.

3. AA is for SMG transmission.

4. Some wait some dont. I dont think it'll hurt if you wait till the iDrive tells you to but for me the first time I changed it in between the recommended interval just to flush out the scrap metal of an early engine. The most would be change it in between recommended intervals any more would just be wasting oil. I think normal intervals are 12K ish...

Thought of another question...........how about K&N panel replacement filters? Any better flow/ filitration over stock? I've heard the oil on k&n filters can possibly cause maf issues....any problems with that on our maf's? I've used them on my Nissans for 10+ years with no maf probs.
If nothing else the filter will pay for itself over time

Congratulations!

On the oil change part, i once had my i-drive tell me i needed to change oil at an 8k interval when it should have been changed at 10k. when i asked the dealership, they said it is sensitive to the state of the oil... before it said that, i drove it hard on the highways for a few trips around 500km each doing pretty high-revs and high speeds. i guess this is a "smart" oil monitoring system of some sort, maybe?
