I've just had a stone crack my windshield..Nice! I've told the dealer and they are going to fit a replacement during next weeks planned s/w update. I'm sure they'll actually have a third party vendor come in (auto glass etc) to do it but anyone experience any problems after replacement (particularly UK). I have the sun protective glass (not sure if windshield in special) but is there anything I should be aware of.. ? I want to be sure I get a like-for-like fitted.. Will they do this anyway if my dealer is overseeing the fitting, don't want a naff OEM..? Apart from making sure I get the correct genuine part has anybody else had problems with sensors, leaks or wind noise after replacement... I know I sound paranoid but only had the car a few months and this is just a pain!

IMHO all big authorized BMW and AUDI dealers do the replacement on their own. Usualy they recommend over night so the glue can dry.

You should check - rear mirror if glued precisely, rain wiper sensor cover.... and MOST OF ALL CHECK FOR your wipers and front bonnet.
Because of the winshield replacement they have to loose the bonnet and the wipers..... Make sure all is back tight and check for the aligment of the bonnet around the front grill and head lights as well as if it closes and holds nice and tight......

several times the hood would not closed easily or it did not fit the same above right and left headlights....
last time at BMW my inner cover for the rain sensor behind the mirror fell off!!! but was easy to click back on

Dealer replaced mine 2 weeks ago for stress fracture.

Made a cracking job of it...............excuse the pun.

Dealer did it themselves, took about 4 hrs for the screen to set.

You should be paranoid. Had mine replaced yesterday after less than 2 months of ownership. My dealer outsourced the work.

I have a black car and noticed some scuffs on both sides of the hood and front quarter panels. I think the scuffs will buff out, but you should ask how they intend to replace the windshield without scuffing the car. Seems like they should cover the front of the car with something.

I have to leave my windows slightly rolled down for 24 hours when closing the door so the pressure does not break the seal. I now realize I did not do it this morning.

I have HUD. I am not sure if the windshield for HUD is different than a regular windshield. I can see my HUD fine, but it seems that it may be slightly out of focus and the background color brighter than before. It also seems that the reflection of the houising around the hole in the dash is more visible on the windshield. I think I am just imagining these things due to paranoia since I did not specify a HUD windshield when I ordered the windshield. Plus, somehow the HUD screen down in the dash got oily dirty looking, as if the window replacement tech reached down in there with dirty hands thinking, heh, whats this hole in the dash with all this high tech looking optical stuff.

Does the HUD require a special windshield and if so, will info be visible if they put in the wrong type of windshield or will the symptoms I described result?

Also, the black trim around the exterior of the windshield...at the top of each corner, where the vertical piece on each side meets up with the top piece and the drainage chanels that run across the top of the roof from front to back. This trim piece does not seem as flush as it should, as if it has a little lip on it or something. Hard to discribe, but I did not examine this before the work was done so have no way of comparing what it should look like. I am sure it will be fine.

But, be paranoid.

Could it be the torgue you have on you M5, V8 and 530d's?

Could the engines bend the chassi so that the window gets a crack?

HUD requires special windshield
look under the seal in the righthand lower corner (outside), it should say "HUD"
if you have a non-HUD windshield, you will have a double image projected on your windshield.
brightness is adjustable in I-drive

Did test drive one a few months ago, I liked it.

The torgue is what it is all about.

-> 500 Nm is alot, it could easily bend the chassi if the force is not
deliverd excactly to the place where it's wanted.
Been reading engineering forces that much.

Ever been to a car Drag Race?

You can actually see the cars bend...

Denuyl, thanks for the info. I don't see HUD anywhere. What seal are you referring to?
