Dear DrLev99,

Not that fine
Ric....Why do you take it so personal, like he personally did it to make you mad? Mark knew what he was getting into when he did this. He's quite intelligent, knew the risks and did the math. It's just a bit larger tire...not the end of the world. If it works for him, and I doubt he'll be tracking the car, then so what?!

We all know it's not the OEM standard for this car, but he wanted to try something else....and if he likes it, then that's all that matters. I doubt the car will ever notice the difference, except in the speedo.

I like the way it fills the wheel gap. How's the ride with the size you chose? As long as the aspect ratio is equivalent front and back you should be OK. The problem is when the ratio is off by too much it can damage the all wheel drive system because the front and back wheels are not turning a full turn together. But if you have all that squared away then your good. It actually looks really good and could be an alternative to the springs for the xi. The 2nd problem I see is a higher tire instead of low profile tire will run smoother and softer and not give the required quick response desired. But if you can live with that then it's all good. Another alternative could be 19inch wheels with a smaller profile tire using the same type of setup you did with the different size tires.

example: you decided on 245-45-18 how about 245-40-19. It will still fill the wheel well as you have it now. I should have thought about that when i bought my wheels I might have considered it. Some of the instruments would have been off but as long as the wheels spin 1 full circle at the same time it would have been good.

Rick..

I used the same tire all around 245/45/18. It rides at least as smooth as the 17's - I used a "luxury touring" tire - whatever that means. No handling issues at all, although I don't push it and won't ever push it.
I know what you mean about the 19's, but the roads stink where I live and I didn't want to push my luck.
I was fortunate that the local tire shop would test fit, as I could have used the standard sizes if it rubbed.

Looks good Mark, but you know me man...with the E60, I feel the car needs 19's at minimum to fill the larger wheel arches, when comparing it to the E39. Regardless though, great choice.

What's next on your list?

Something non-OEM that Ricracer will like. Probably twin superchargers, M5 body kit, remove catalytic convertors, limited slip differentials, 4 inch lift kit, stroked chevy 350, 33 inch monster mudder tires, chrome spinners with et 12...

(No plans to change anything actually)
