Hi guys,

I'm shopping for 17" wheels to mount snow tires on for next winter. Anyone know if they'll fit on the 535i with sport package? Tirerack doesn't list 17" rims as an option for my 535i but the base vehicle does come with 17" rims. Are the brakes larger with the sport pkg? If they do fit, what is the offset I need to have?

Thanks,
Bryan

You can actually put 16" rims on the car.

BMW in Germany was selling in this size and 17"
Tire Rack used to sell them in this size and larger. Since its no longer winter season they probably don't have anything in stock.

If you really do want to get them now you could probably find some used sets on Ebay cheap.

Thanks,

I'll be importing virtually the same 535i as yours (colour and all) into Canada next Wednesday except it will be a manual transmission. Was just hoping to find something on clearance so that I can bring it all back in one trip. BTW, how do you like your car? I never did get a chance to test drive the 535i, just the 528i.

You're gonna love it! Once you feel the power the two turbos provide you'll forget about the 528i. The sport package is noticeably stiffer (compared to a 535d non sport I test drove) but the ride is still very pleasant.

Last winter I switched to M+S all season tires and the car handled fine in light snow and ice with DSC. You should do well with a good set of snow tires in Canada. BTW - you did read the post on this forum regarding the import requirements, correct?

One more thing, if you are considering or required to use snow chains where you live you definitely want to go with 16" wheels for clearance in the wheel well

Enjoy!

I don't think 16" will fit the 535. I think the 535 has the same brakes as 545/550 and 16" won't fit over the brakes.

Yep - works fine. I had Dunlop WinterSport M3's on mine this winter. 225/50 R17.

The ad at the BMW Niederlassung did say E60 and didn't exclude any particular model. But I didn't specifically ask so you might be right.

Agreed. 16's will fit on the 528i but not the 535 as it has larger brakes. The wheels will not clear them.

I'd move to SoCal before putting chains on my car...whoops, I already live here ...but yes I agree...couldn't imagine taking a chance with chains on the 535!
