I love these HP wars, we get to benefit.

I read somewhere that somebody high up in BMW indicated they were not going all out to make higher powered engines then some of their closest rivals. They believe lowering the weight was the answer in gaining performance.

I also read that because the new E90 M3 was so much more powerful than the current M3, they were looking at turbocharging the 3.0 to have a another engine power offering between the stock 3.0 and the new M3

A 48-Valve V8 from MB (using their displacements of up to 5 to or 5.5 liters) could easily pump out close to 400 hp. I'm sure BMW will have to do something.
The '06 M-class will be offered intially with the old 5.0L V8 but Benz is switching to a new 4.6L V8 with ~330hp.

yeah, i think we're starting to get the picture here,

I will attempt to locate some stories, as I read alot of german and french stuff too, but the consenus from what I read agrees with this story in the mag...everyone has to remember that the current 4.5 has been out since the 7er was redesigned so thats 4 years now, and I think that its reasonable that by MY06 for the 7er, and then MY07's the 6ers and 5ers would get the engine updates...

we'll have to wait until the facelift of the E65 in the spring to see if it coincides with a new engines...

What's up with the facelift information?
What are the changes?
I am just buying a brand new 2005 545i and don't want that to be outdated in less than a year.
