I went by Sam's Wholesale Club this morning and discovered a 100W Halogen spot light that is rechargeable with either a 110 or 12V system. Believe me, this is one really, really bright spot light. On a full charge, it will go for 20 minutes and a smaller light in the handle will last for 3 days. The neat part is the price which is under $20 -- includes a storage bag for light and accessories. It can be used free standing or plugged into the 12V system. There is also a flip up stand (second picture) that would be helpful when changing a tire.

Looks good. But how about this rechargable Maglite or this Surefire torch?
These are flashlights/torches worthy a place in the boot of a 5er
Currently our 5er has a 4 D-cell Maglite resting between the driver's seat and the
door sill - however, this isn't the best solution for cold and dark winter days where the batteries are emptied nearly on the spot.

pasaan, while those are nice lights, they cannot possibly brighten as much area as the 100W SportySpot. Believe me, this thing is bright. It reminds me of a train light. Also, to its advantage, it has a stand alone bracket, rechargeable via the power outlets in a 12V system, and is less than $20. Those Surefire packages are over $200. The SportySpot has about a 90 degree fan of light with a very large bright white spot in the center. That spot across a 20' room is 4' in diameter on the wall.

Where is the 12V in the trunk? I looked last night & couldn't find it. (I hope it's not too obvious).

Did I mention that the Vector light at Sam's is 2 million candle power?

I think we've established that the 12V outlet in the trunk is only there if you have the fold-down rear seats. (Don't ask me why...I don't build them, I just love to drive them!)
