BMW is stating I need a new transmission at 49k miles.

Shouldn't BMW extend my warranty with such a repair/replacement?

What happen to your current transmission?
They should at least extend the warranty for that item in particular.

Sometimes, you would feel a slight kickback when changing gears. Not as smooth as it should be.

I get that all the time!!!
Dealer always says that they cannot replicate the issue or that it is performing as expected.

Thought that was addressed with software update...

and you'll prob end up getting an extended warranty only on the transmission not the whole car.

50,000 miles or 4 years which ever comes first. You should be covered.

If the techs drove, they probably wouldn't have noticed. You would have to drive the car for some time to detect an issue. The way I was able to show the techs, was as follows:

while stationary - foot on brake, engage sport drive
put transmission gear in 1st
then put transmission gear in 2nd
put back in 1st

each time switching between 1st and 2nd, the transmission definitely had a kickback. It was a hard shift.

While driving, you would feel a kickback usually between 5th and 6th. Sometimes in 5th, it felt like it was slipping.
