Please difine why the Primacy is so bad

We installed the Primacy istead of the Pilot Sport. The test I've read said that Primacy were more confortable than Pilot Sport, and lasted longer.

The tire guy in Sweden (which is very good!!) said the same thing, that the only difference between Primacy and Pilot Sport is the tyre pattern, and that the Primacy is quiter that Pilot Sport, but the Pilot sport is more sporty.

We are more than happy with our Michelin Primacy, and I've driven a E60 545iA with Pilot sport (also with 245/45R17) and I didn't fell any diffence!

[quote name='oreo' date='Oct 11 2005, 02:24 AM']Hi all,

I am finally trading my 225/50/17 Dunlop RFTs for non-RFT tires on my 530d. I have thought about chosing either the Bridgestone Turanza LS-Z or Continental ContiPremierContact.

If anyone tried either of these tires on the e60, I'd really like to hear your review!

If there are other reviews of tires that you feel go well/do not go so well with this car I am also all ears!

There are many good tires. I like my new PS2's very well. Excellent ride, great performance, very light.

LOL "very light"!!!

You have a "problem" with weight! How much do you weigh btw?

primacy are crap forget about them. GSD3s come close to PS2 but have slightly softer sidewalls and tend to tramline on broken roads. Both dry and wet grip is phenomenal.

p.s. GSD3s are very quiet

What size where the tested tires?

I will also go for non RF's next spring (245/40 18") but im not sure what tire would be the quietest one and what tire would not be sensitive for valley like roads here in Finland?

Should it be Michelin PS2 or Bridgestone Potenza RE050 or the Continental SportContact2???

I dislike the primacy for both grip and wear. They might be comparable with the old michelin pilot which I have never tried but the PS2 is a league ahead

Just replaced the Dunlop RFT today with Pilot Primacys 225/50/17 (didn't have Pilot Sport in a suitable size).
The Primacy is a huge improvement in comfort and noise (none that I noticed, only hearing the engine now) over the Dunlops.
Can't comment on the handling yet since only a few miles on them and time will tell with the wear. Have to say though, they were quite expensive here - more than the Goodyear Eagle F1 and the Pilot Sport (both of which were 235/45/17)

Dunlop Sportmaxx and Toyo T1-R are two relatively new tyres I want to know
more of but cant seem to find any reviews. I have definitely decided to switch to non-rfts because the ride of the RE050s I have at the moment is pretty bad

For the toyos, check out the reviews of the T1-S. These are the previous generation and from what I hear or read, they are similar tires, but overall improved.

There have been a few reviews on the m3forums stating that they are not that good prior to getting some miles under them. That is a bit disconcerting, but they still seem like a good buy to me.

In the same way F1s are terrible for the first few hundred kilometers, I did not know that back in the day and had a couple of moments in my WRX. Once run in though they stick like the glue

Just did a new search on the sportmaxx and found a review where it seems to win against two very tough competitors
