Just got a call from the Service Manager. The car is ready for pickup. Here's what was done:

1. New wheels/tires (winter setup) - BMW Style #138 225/50R-17 with Dunlop Winter Sport M3.
2. Fix steering wheel rattle during entry/exit
He said that the torque setting on the steering column was incorrect. I thought this was supposed to be fixed by a CIP upgrade.
3. In-dash CD player doesn't stay shut off after stop and re-start the car.
Fixed by upgrading CIP to 19.2.3. Is this a right version number?? He did say it was the latest they are installing. Didn't someone mention that 19.3 is out??
4. RDS - fixed with software upgrade.
5. Auto headlamps doesn't switch off when going from dark to light - fixed with the software upgrade.

I can't wait to get the car back. I'll report back to confirm that these issues were fixed.

I hope they all are fixed. 19.02.03 apparently is the latest. The poster mentioning 19.3, probably having been confused by his dealer, likely was referring to 19.02.03 (info provided elsewhere by cobradav, and I believe him).

At first, it was CIP 16, 17, 18....Then 19.01, 19.02. Now 19.02.03. Are we gonna have 19.02.03.05.06....? Where is the end? What is BMW's CIP version convension?

Ok, Got my car back today!! CIP version installed was 19.02.03

1. What a difference the new wheels tires make. The steering is a lot lighter and of course the ride is much smoother (went from 245 front/275 rear to 225/50R17 all around). I didn't realize the summer tires were that much heavier. Or least they do feel heavier at the steering.
2. Steering wheel rattle has been fixed - a u joint was incorrectly torqued
3. In dash CD player now stays shut off.
4. I now have RDS!!! Although, seems like the RDS in my loaner car ('06 330i) updates faster.
5. Auto headlamps now turn off when going from dark to light

Some other things I noticed:
1. The harsh transmission downshifts has gone! In manual or in DS I can't feel a thing when I shift. The car seems like a totally different car than what I had before.
2. Perspective view in Nav - enough said
3. Sorry no MP3  - I was waiting for the MP3 capability and was holding off buying a CD changer, but now I might just have a break down and do it (how the heck am I going to clear that by my wife after spending almost $2k on wheels/tires/all weather mats, etc??!! )

Sorry Doug_999. When I woek up this morning, the streets were just barely wet. We didn't get much snow here in the western suburbs (btw, where are you?) last night. The Costco parking lot did have some snow )about 1/2 inch) and slush. I could feel the ABS kick in when I slammed on the brakes - still tracked a straight line. I tried accelerating real hard in the parking lot but the back-end wouldn't spin out. Not a good test, I know. I'll have to wait till later this week when more snow is expected.

What CIP version are we talking about here? I have 19.02 which does not fix the auto headlamp problem.

[/quote]Maybe fifth and sixth digits identify specific, but very small, changes in, for example. 19.02. I suppose a major upgrade is reserved for going from, say, 19 to 20. So, then the second and third digits would designate medium sized changes. All speculation.

RDS Gremlins!!

Now my RDS doesn't work with all radio stations - works on only one radio station. What the heck is going on??!! I get the station names, but no track/artist name except in the one radio station.

Also, when I turned RDS Off, shut-off the car. Came back 5 mins later and now the radio cuts out every min or so. Doesn't happen when RDS is on. GRRRRRRRRRR!!
