New Recall
Just got this letter from BMW:
"Dear BMW Owner:
BMW has determined that certain 2004 model year 545i and 645Ci BMW automobiles may not fully meet the Federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the California Air Resources Board (CAR
emission control requirements. In order to remedy this situation, BMW is conducting a Voluntary Emissions Recall Campaign. We are asking you, as the owner of an affected vehicle, to contact your authorized BMW center at your earliest convenience to have the repair carried out.
The Problem is...
Your 2004 model year 545i and 645Ci BMW auromobile incorporates faulty DME control module software that may not correctly detect an oxygen sensor failure. As a result, the vehicle's emissions may exceed the mandated limits without the normal warning ("Service Engine Soon") to the consumer."
etc...
Anyone had this repair done??

I got my recall letter yesterday. Doesn't sound mandetory though the letter does note that if you live in a state that does Smog tests, you'll have problems. Do we know if this involves a whole new software update or is it just a minor fix. I've been running 11.x since I got my car back in Feb 2004 and other than the CD restarting on track 1 ocassionally, I've had no problems. I don't think I want a software upgrade after reading all the quirks in it. Heck, I even have RDS working...
If it is a whole new upgrade, is V 15 out? Hadn't heard that yet.

Other than the whole process taking two days rather than the originally estimated one, the whole thing was pretty much painless.

Wolverine,? ? you must have V11x or earlyV12 software or earlier.? This recall was taken care of at VPC for me with V 12 something.? You will probably get V 15 and tightened Active Steering etc.? My brother just got a letter for his MINI.

I upgraded to 13.2 after having the car for about a week (in September), but I still got the letter. Either BMWNA does not keep track of what version is on the cars, or the problem is not software dependent.
