I have used the 2004.2, 2006.1 and 2009.1 disk in my 04 and the only thing that I have noticed is the updated maps. I found no increase or decrease in performance. All I did was eject old disk while the car was off, put in the new disk and it worked.

I have the 2009 in my 04 and the only difference is new roads and updated poi like everyone else has said. Just got my nav updated at bmw yesterday and it works alot faster. It also put all the nav options in a small bar on the left, alot easier to switch options.

I got the new 2009.2 Professional Sat Nav DVD recently and I would recommend it because:
IT ADDS:
1. New software that speeds up loading and screen transitions (fade)
2. 7-digit Postcode search for UK and Speed Camera/Trap locations
3. Updates new roads / re-alignments in UK and Europe
4. New angle for 3D/Perspective mode which I find nicer than earlier discs
IT DOES NOT CHANGE:
1. Quality or resolution of the screen graphics which depend on your existing screen OR hardware
2. Any new features that your existing hardware may not be able to handle (for pre-2004 cars)
WORTH GETTING THE NEW 2009.2 SAT NAV DVD IF:
> there have been several road works / re-alignments in your area
> you drive to new unfamiliar areas in UK and Europe frequently
> you find your existing disc slow and clunky
NOT WORTH GETTING THE NEW 2009.2 SAT NAV DVD IF:
> you drive in a familiar area all the time
> there have been no road works/ re-alignments in your usual area
> you are not particularly bothered with the loading speed or transitions
An original disc (available for Business OR Professional Sat Nav Models) costs approximately ?200
I bought a ripped off DVD for ?25 from a highly-recommended vendor here: MickG <gilluley@hotmail.com>
Being very cautious about anything going into my precious Bimmer, I am pleased all went EXACTLY to plan.
Excellent DVD, quick delivery and works exactly as advertised, very responsive support and service.
MickG also runs a loyalty programs so you get subsequent updates at a further discounted price.
BE AWARE:
You must retain your original disc and case to REPLACE in the drive when having your carserviced by a delaership.
They will not be happy to see a rip-off and may unfiarly attribute problems to the ripped DVD.

I'm glad I'm not a seller (or buyer) of pirated DVDs.
I'd be quite pissed off if someone posted my id and email address on a public forum detailing all my pirating activities.

I have not seen year to year changes enough to justify the cost of a new version. Try eBay for a 2008.

I guess we all make decisions on what is really worth paying more for.
Assume all the music on your iPod is legal.
