Thumbs up

I currently have 2004 545i with navigation, I was thinking of purchasing a 2009 navigation dvd from the dealer. Does anyone know if this will give my navigation better graphics? What kind of options should I expect from the 09 navi DVD? Bottom line is it worth the purchase?

Ive been wanting the upgrade as well...
Anyone try ripping their 2009 dvd to share with their outdated e60.net brethren?? A blank dvd would definately be better than a purchase from BMW haha

Careful with those thoughts, I asked the same thing a while back and was informed that the mods frown on pirated software. Let's go back to the topic shall we?

agreed...actions such as pirating a nav dvd adds up, causes BMW to lose money and seek other avenues to make up for that loss, so all of us end up paying for it eventually....spend the money...after all you drive a $50K+ car....

***edit, thanx to luigi below for getting us back on topic

My BMW-2009 Navteq DVD seems to read faster (loads routes faster) ... more roads and POIs than the late 2006 map that came with my '07. Still not a hard drive based system but that'll have to come later.

They are expensive (approx $200 for a genuine DVD). If you use your Nav a lot think of the cost as equivalent to less than the price of one cup of coffee a day.

As Luigi points out, the DVD will have all the updated roads, POI's etc but ultimatley the graphics on the iDrive screen and the functionality of the system will not be changed by the new DVD. It basically supplies the data for the system... At least that is my understanding.

Yes the graphics on the iDrive screen and the functionality of the system will not be changed by the new DVD.

However, I after purchasing this version am having problem. My car is 2006 and this version loads very slow. Sometimes I have to wait over 3 minutes to swap between settings entering road names, city... I have heard the newer cars load faster. So please check on this as well.

I borrowed a friends 2008 disk and my car (05' 545i) had issues with it and the system locked up. I was told my software version was too low to read the newer disk. So I'm letting them update my system now.

It may be a function of the S/W vers on your car; my 2009 map loads and handles address changes more quickly than the 2006 map version that came with my car - '07 530xi ... (At least I THINK it does -- It may be that after 2+ years of iDrive I've gotten used to it ??)

Did it lock up the whole system until the update? or just while you had the new disk in?
I got the software update because of the "slam" a few months ago, do you think this is the same update you are getting?
