So i just bought a "new" 2005 545i from an independent dealer, and he ordered me a key from the dealer at his cost because the car only came with one key and i wanted a backup key.
The key arrived from BMW, but does anyone know how to program the key to the car?
i understand there's a certain way to do it, but i'm not sure if i have to take it to the dealer to do that or if i can do it myself.
thanks for any help with this,
brian

use old key to open the door, put new key in the ignition, wait for a few seconds. Start the car, new key is programmed. Test by closing the door with the new key.

it worked perfectly! thanks so much.
but i want to mention, i put the key in, left it for a few seconds, and then took it out and locked the door to test, it did lock the door manually, but the buttons were not working.
so i did it again, but this time i started the car with new key in ignition (there was a slight delay before it turned over) - and then it started the car, left it run, shut off. after that the buttons to lock and unlock all worked correctly.
thx again!
