The X5 is still built with the old 4.4i N52B44 engine (545i).

The X3 and the E46 C and CC are still built with the old (R6) M54 engine.

The new N52 (R6 engines) where just introduced to the E60 in March '05.

No one would like their new cars tech be old in 1.5 years.

BMW also has a tradition the renew the engines at the facelift.
And the facelifts tend to accure in September as the BMW and EU MY change.

PS. The new M3 engine with a new +400 hp V8 will be introduced next year...
This engine will not be available for the E60, but the new N54B35 will...

In the German car press this month (June 2006) they are talking about the 120d and 520d getting a power increase from 163PS to 175/177PS. Depending on which magazine you look at, the changes are expected to come "early 2007" or "March 2007". They also imply that other models, such as the 525d, will also get a power increase to make sure the various models are correctly positioned within the range / market.

This is true.

Both the 520d (120 kW -> 130 kW) and the 525d (130 kW to 150 kW?) will get updated engines
- maybe already to the MY '07.

The both are "old" updates.

The 530d was just updated to 170 kW.

The 535d will most likely get 210 kW soon...
