New to e61 club!
Hey guys, been avoiding the e60s for a LONG while~ but woman wanted to get something with awd.
She wanted the X5 ~ but convinced her wagons are waayyy more awesomtastic. (key winning point was better mpgs)
Picked up a 2006 530xit with 98k miles. Paid a little extra and got the dealer to do 100k maintenance items~ engine valve seal, and replace the waterpump/t-stat (radiator is factory), plugs, oil change... (need to check the receipt if there are more items). But so far this car is pretty awesome. Love all the features, idrive is not as bad everyone made it out to be, heated wheel (I LOVE IT), heated front and rear seats, auto hatch, nav.
I’m a bimmerforums guy but, the members there don’t really talk about e60s so joining this club, now I have more forums to read haha.
Anyways, wanted to see if you guys have some knowledge to dispense to a newbie.
So my 530xit is doing about 16-19mpg (city with light traffic) haven’t done a full highway test yet… So originally I was getting more like 16-17, but they installed a new battery and that helped it to go up to 19s (mixed driving). Are e60s this bad with gas? It’s rated at 19-29, so figuring mixed driving I would at least get 23-25mpg, driving it nicely, ( haven’t broke into the 20s yet). What kind of mpgs are you guys getting? And any fixes/ suggestions?
Also, when in gear at a stop, I can feel vibrations coming though the steering wheel. Any ideas what this could be? I’m thinking it could be interconnected?
Well glad to join this group and thank you in advance!

I picked up an 07 530xiT about 4 months ago. My city driving is about on par with you, during the cold months it was around 19. But i can usually average 21 in the city. All highway i've yet to hit 29, i've gotten up to 27 coming back from VT on a 4 hour drive, but again that was in the winter too. Will be taking it from RI to DC and back in april, interested to see what mpg i can pull then. But also that was avg 75mph on the highway, i'm sure if i dialed it back it would help the mpgs more.

Added a fresh tank of vpower and a can of seafoam... maybe that'll help...
it's annoying cause driving the e36m like a clown is still netting me 19~21, but baby driving thing i get barely 19 w/ light traffic Gotta try a highway day and see what it does.
So far how you like your e61?

Try changing out your air filter too. That MPG sounds pretty low. I get 21 average in a 550. You should be betting much better than that.

I have a 2006 530xi too, and I've been getting 19 - 21 mpg with city driving. This was lower than I originally expected, but then I realized that I really don't do much highway driving right now. I am interested to see how an air filter affects mpg.

Mmm... as someone else mentioned, thoughts on getting a cai? Personally I like to keep the bmw air system stock~ but if it helps, great!! and also, i get to hear the engine a little more.
