Hya all ...

Hoping to pickup new car next week E60 530d auto 2005 .. and have a few queries .. ive searched everywhere and think im pretty clued up on what I need to know .. but just want to double check ..

1 . Car has got the basic " BASIC " sound system .. with just a cd player ... Ive asked at me local dealers about MP3 playback and after a few phone calls they eventually agreed that is maybe possible .. just want to know what version of software will I need to be able to play MP3's and if the cd player is not capable of reading MP3 disc is it swappable for a later one that does .. ??

2 . looking at adding a amp a sub ( need me bass ) and only way I can see is to use the rear speaker wires and run them into a " speaker to rca converter " .. like below :

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SPEAKER-TO-CAR-RCA-ADAPTOR-CONNECT-AMP-TO-STEREO-B65N_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ65Q3a3Q7c66Q3a2Q7c39Q3a1Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem3a510ee9c6QQitemZ250468035014QQptZUKQ5fCarsQ5fPartsQ5fVehiclesQ5fTerminalsQ5fCablingQ5fETQQsalenotsupported
Would this work ??
Also does this mean the rear speakers cant be used or can I use them as well as the converter ??

3 . Any thing major to look out for when picking up car ??

Thanks

Yas

Hi there! welcome to the forums.
i cant answer question 1 because i burn CDs in audio format and have stacks of them, so i am interested in the answer too.

however for question 2, yeah you can tap into your rear speaker wires with a converter and run the signals to your aftermaket amp from there. i have a converter similar to the one you posted but it has an equalizer (which is redundant). but that one should do the job fine!

good luck!

If you look here:

PDF Download

You'll see if you car can be made to be MP3 compatible. It depends on what week your car was built in 2005.

Wink

funny you should say that as mine is a 2003 and mine can play mp3`s from the update, just so you know, your car will have to have a full re-code if you decide to have the mp3 function added, this is due to
the new ISTA/P system, progam is no longer used.

pics please , i have the 530d as well, its pretty special.

That's because you have Business Nav.

If your car had the bog standard business radio, it wouldn't work.

It depends on what you have in your car........

The chart is a little misleading (but it's produced by BMW, so what do you expect??).

The chart shows the dates from which MP3 worked as standard with no mods required.

However, if you had an earlier car, with Nav, MP3 could be made functional through a car software update. But if you're unlucky enough to have an early build with Business Radio, then you're out of luck.
