When i used to have a GTI the dealer used silicon spray to quiet my seals. Works great and no clean up. Just apply a coat whenever you wax your car and you should be golden.

After reading dozens of posts on this subject, I went with Vinylex. I just sprayed some on a rag and rubbed it on the felt strips on top of the door seals. It's been about 3 months and so far, so good. I saw many reports that Vaseline and silicone based lubricants work as well, but some say they may damage the seals over time. Vinylex is designed to protect and restore rubber and plastic, so I think it should be safe. It's also not greasy or messy.

Petroleum based products will definitely degrade the soft rubber.

i have new seals and yes, the creaking will return! However, BMW use their own silicon remover solution (available from your dealer) when combatting this problem. I have a bottle and give the seals a rub say every 3 to 4 months (not after every wash?!?!). So, despite the advice to grease or lube up your seals, BMW advise the opposite, which works.

rubbing petroleum jelly on the seals fixes it too
I'm finding the term "door seals" a bit too vague. Which seals are these exactly?

Had mine replaced. Two years on and start
Didn't realise I got cut off in my prime! Damn BlackBerry!!! Anyway, what I was saying is that my creaks returned after changing seals. Now use BMW silicon remover on the flock edges every 3 to 4 months and no problems. This is what BMW UK use.
