I can confirm that my March 05 build 530i SMG DOES roll back on steep hills.

My 2006 530i Sport with the manual drifts backwards even on what I'd consider flat pavement with the clutch in. I actually like this since I like to readjust my parking without having to shift into reverse.

I grew up in a town (and learned to drive stick) where there are hills so steep it feels like the car is going to tip over backwards, so for me there's little benefit to it. But back to the topic, it doesn't appear that current 2006 cars have DSC+.

I was on a steep slope today (30 degrees @ Ieast).

Took my foot off the accelerator & did not apply any brakes.
The car stayed perfectly stilI.

But then again it is an auto!?!?
AII my previous BMW autos were pretty good on hills although l never really paid attention on particularly steep inclines.

Can anyone with pre March 05 Autos comment?

Sounds like the hill stop control might be working on your car. My 04 with Step will definitely roll backward on a moderately steep incline (e.g. exiting from the parking garage if there is a line-up when leaving work).

DOH! So you think it might just be the automatic transmission holding the car? Find a steeper hill. to test of course. anyone with a manual or SMG confirm this?

I know for me My car will start flying down backwards like a true manual.

I say this because my E39 Steptronic did sometimes roll back slightly on hills, but I can't remember if this happened more as the car got older & perhaps "loosened up"

I will be checking again on some even steeper slopes.

Ok so l found a slightly steeper slope!

Car in drive, I went slightly up the hill, & took my foot off the gas, no brake!s & the car stopped & stayed.

I went further up the hill
& repeated the process 2 more times.
I got excited thinking just maybe DSC+ was at work!

BUT on attempts 4 & 5 (possible slight gradient increase) the car did roll back
:'( :'(

NO DSC+

during the first two tries did it just stop once the momentum ran out... did it feel like you stepped on the brake to hold the car on the hill or just more like the automatic transmission was holding the car up?

on the 3rd and 4th time... welll... if the hill is TOO steep I suppose DSC+ wont even be able to hold the car up. It might be designed for up to such and such gradient

DSC+ is only scheduled for September production. I'm thinking of changing and asked the dealer. I drove a post March production car and it didn't have DSC+.

I certainly wouldn't wait for a September production car just to get DSC+.
I reckon some of the of the benefits of DSC+ are really negligble in the real world such as brake fade? I'm not on a race track. Or travelling down from Pikes Peak. Soft stop? Maybe but learn to drive more smoothly. Hill assist? I will get an auto. Rain Brake? Doesn't rain much in Ireland ( )

My car is pre-March 2004 and it stays still on a slightly sloped driveway in D. I am sure my car will fall like a rock when it on a 60 degree slope
