After several months of dissatisfaction about the ride quality of my E60, even more excerbated by the coming of bad weather with slippery roads, I followed the advice of several collegues in this forum and switched my tyres (bloody wooden-like Bridgestone Potenza RF) with a full set of standard tubeless Michelin Pilot Sport 2.
What a change!!!
The ride is now superb, smooth and quiet like a luxury sedan should be, not any more any squeeking doors or rear-shelf rattle, no vibrations and fantastic road handling behaviour on wet surfaces, where with the Bridgestone I had very poor feeling and occasional loss of traction in high speed turns.

Big, big improvement. It's like to have switched to a new, improved version of the same car. Now I'm really happy with it, everything is working really fine (and no I-drive issues, either!)

Thanks to all the guys that posted their experience with the no-runflat tyres; you helped me a lot in making my mind.

Cheers

Indeed - matches my experience too!

The 5 is a fantastic car without those heavy boots!

That's great. My PS2's are wonderful too. I am glad you now are so happy with your car.

Wow is the difference really that great?? I read so many threads about how crappy the runflats are....I think I'm gonna do the same next summer. I have not complained about my runflats besides possible crappy traction. This is my first sedan and previosuly I drove SUVs which were noisier in comparison hence I am used to the sound and poor ride. I'm gonna get myself a set of PS2's in the next summer

I'm right there with you on this one, right now I have my winter tires on and they are amazing compared to the dunlop runflats I have in the summer. The only problem is that the dunlops were wearing like crap so they gave me new ones for free, thanks to this forum, so now I have another summer with those, but I can't complain, it's 1800 bucks for free, but I would like to have non-runflats.

I got the same feeling chaging to my winter wheels and tires!

But my 245/40 18" Dunlop RF's must go next summer, they suck for the same reasons you tell us!

But, should they be Michelin Pilot Sport 2 or Continental SportContact 2, I do not know

Nice topic, I have the Bridgestone Potenza RF and when I changed to my winter tires (nokia hakkapelitta 4) it goes like h***!. The car is a lot more stabel. I will probaly change to the Michelin this spring.

Well, besides relying on the suggestions of our forum friends, before deciding which tyre install I asked the advice of a friend of mine who owns a large tyreshop and is a real expert (he races bikes and cars); he told me that, at present, the best choice is Michelin Pilot Sport2, better than Pirelli Pzero Rosso corsa or other makers. And I don't regret at all the choice.

Nokia? Do they manufacture GSM tyres?
I thought that Nokia tyres and electrical cables were sold years ago and changed brand name.

PS2's are great but the SC2's are good too! PS2's are about 15% more expensive and may wear a little quicker...

Do it!!! I too came from a poorly riding previous car and thought the RF's weren't too bad. But after a while they felt like rocks!

Interesting that you equate loss of squeeks and rattles to softer tires. I remarked early on that RFs MUST pound the hell out of the suspension (and it's soft aluminum, kids...) and the attached body, but had not experienced the S&Rs that others mention (I'm sure my time is coming). Wouldn't that make an interesting correlation (RFs=S&Rs) for BMW to ponder?
