Safety Restraint Systems February 2006 Technical Service

SUBJECT
Airbag Warning Illuminated, FC 9B2D in SFZ

MODEL
E60/E61 (5 Series)

Vehicles produced up to September 2005

SITUATION
The airbag warning lamp (AWL) is illuminated, and fault code 9B2D is stored in the SFZ (Vehicle Center Satellite).

CAUSE
Safety Battery Terminal (SBK) corroded.

CORRECTION
Using DISPlus/GT1, follow the diagnosis test plan. The primary cause is likely to be a corroded SBK.

Check SBK for corrosion. If corrosion is present, replace the SBK (do not replace the SFZ) and check vehicle for leaks - refer to SM B61 210 04 (E60 (5 Series) Various Electrical Problems Caused by Water Ingress).

Humm are they suppose to check this or worry only if your air bag light goes off?

What a coincidence, my airbag light came on with a "safety restraint" warning just yesterday. I just thought it was from the sudden temperature drop overnight.
