Guys, I'm sure it's been discussed, but can't find any topics...
How hard do you guys drive your brand new cars? Do you keep them
under 3000RPM for 1000 miles? I always try to avoid a constant speed
with a brand new car, but go sometimes up to 4000-5000RPM...
How careful do I have to be with a 550i?

You live in Tahoe? Cool place and a great looking car!

No my 545 was not sluggish, but my 550 is sluggish compared to my 545.I will quantify better after break in.I made many 0-60 runs below 5 secs in my 545.I will be very disappointed if I can not better my 545 times.I am speaking of the throttle response in the 550 from a start. It does not respond as quickly as my 545.I expect this to improve with more miles.
I now run it in manual sport mode a lot. Starting in 1st, it is very nice off the line but still not as quick a throttle as the 650i was or my '02 M5.
Re break in, I have posted before that I did an "accelerated" break in with the 550i. I stayed below 4500RPM for 500 miles but began to have a little fun with it on a mountain trip. By 80 miles I was hitting 5500 RPMs occasionally and still allowing the car to vary RPMs and load in the mountains. Bt the time I got back home the car had 1200 miles on it and felt very good. It still does.
Also, once I passed 1200 miles, I didn't let all heck break loose and take it to redline every shift. I waited for a track day at 3000 miles for that

I don't know how you're establishing your 0-60 times, and what errors are in the data, but just a thought about the throttle response of your 550 from a start. Do you have the automatic trans? Try the comparison in manual mode, if you haven't already. I didn't realize iinitially, but in automatic mode you're starting off in 2nd gear, not first.

I do have the step trans and always use the manual mode for testing.I am aware that the step sometimes starts in 2nd gear, but thats not what I am talking about.I mean it is sluggish for about 2 seconds and then seems to go to full throttle in any gear.It may be just a function of break in.

only in normal "D" mode. In sport mode ("D" + sport button) it is entirely different car, very responsive and feels definitely faster than 545i.

In D mode, for sure, you're starting in 2nd, hence the difference.

I've done only 250 miles so far. Hope it just needs more miles to break-in.
