First of all... Thank you mods and members for the best 5 series resource on the internet!
I've taken part in many a car forum... This is certainly the most mature, and informative I've come across!
I purchased an 04 545i (sport pack) a few days ago...
75000 km's (46k or so miles), immaculate condition inside and out.
And like everyone else on this site... I'm simply in love with this thing, and I have yet to find a flaw in its performance... Brilliant!
The only issue I've got is with the automatic climate control.
Both driver and passenger dials work to send heat/cold air through the vents, but its limited...
I have to go into iDrive and turn the temperature up or down (The red/blue bars in the vent setting) to get heat or cold air.
Example... If I had the tempurature set at 20 degrees... If the heat in iDrive is turned up, it cant keep up and will end up around 24 degrees...
However, if I turn the bars blue in iDrive, it will get cold quickly!
I know the owners manual says there should be an Auto box in the settings, but mine must be updated as its nowhere to be found.
(I have the intensity turned up to full)
Is this a problem? Or is this standard procedure for heating/cooling the cabin?
Thanks in advance!

Like if I press Auto, the airflow moves to accommodate the temperature, but the hot and cold bars stay the same...

i think those blue/red bars in idrive are to adjust how the air comes out of the center vents compared to the other vents. example, if you want cooler air to come out at the center vents versus the other vents, adjust to blue. adjust to red if you want the air in the center vents to come out warmer than the other vents.
usually i leave the red/blue bars set in the middle.
