My lease is coming up on my 530i and I am leaning towards a 2010 535i. Reading about the fuel pump issues, and even where BMW has stated cars ethanol is too high and won't cover repairs, is this something to stray me away from this model? Do we know if the 2010 has the same fuel pumps?

Thanks

BMW extended the warranty for 10 years on the fuel pump (HPFP) for all N54 engines. The TT is also going to get applied to V8 models for the F10. Most BMW's will have a HPFP in the near future. BMW has staked their future with the TT.

I would not worry too much about it. The gen 4 pumps "seem" to have a much lower failure rate then the rebuilds and and gen 3's. Most cars from I think July build of last year have the gen 4 pump in them. The ethanol issue there is nothing you can do about it, just use top tear gas from reputable gas stations.

I have not seen any issue about the TT v8 but that might be due to the fact that up to this point it's use has been limited to the rare X6 , and just recently F01's. The 09 535's are still having the HPFP issues, but at a much lower rate than the 08's hince why the warranty has been extended 10 y 120k Miles.

You can still drive the car when one goes bad, I just would not recommend it though , due to the rough running nature, and severe lack of power. Also the chance that the LPFP could go bad, and then you would be stuck.

I have had "bad" luck , but I know of 3-4 other N54 owners here in town that have had no problems at all. As most here on the forum would say it's hit or miss. For every bad one you here about there are probably 5-10 ones that will never go bad and don't here about.

The whole world is on the internet, and out of this survey size I have only heard of some fuel pump problems. Get the car and enjoy.

Well, you could always consider the 550.

I love mine.
