Could someone please enlighten me to where the difference in power comes from? Also, would it be possible to chip the 525 along with other mods so as to bring it up to the level of the 530 engine?

Oh, okay. I read something on the e90 on how the 325 and 330 were both 3.0L engines. I thought the same would apply to the e60.

In the USA and Canada the 525,530,325 and 330 are all 3.0L

The 525 and 325 have a single stage intake and different software

In the rest of the world they are 3.0 and 2.5L

The USA versions have the same power and torque as the others

In europe the 323i and 523i use a 2.5L with the single stage intake

It will cost more to upgrade the engine than to buy the bigger on in the first place

Its apparently due to future emmisions regulations and cost savings

Not in the States! The 525 and 530 are both 3 litre... Apparently the American market would not take a 2.5l car seriously...!

In other markets the 523 and 525 are 2.5l

If you read above you would see its because of future California emmisions requirements and cost savings

This was confirmed by friends at the factory here
