BMW have finally put the new engine specifcation for the 520d on their UK home page.

Power goes from 163bhp to 177bhp.

Combined fuel consumption goes from 47.9mpg to 55.5mpg.

Quite remarkable really. Anyone buying an automatic will see approximately 25% better fuel economy and a faster car!

I do realise these figures have been known for some time but BMW have only now stated them as current.

My personal crisis is that my leasing company told me I'd get the new car "Early September." Am I going to get the last old specification engine? It'd be just my luck...

Hi Lancaster,

I am in the same position, I tried to get the build of my car delayed to September so I could get the new engine (I have assumed that it is only included from cars produced from then). However, they tod me that the car has already been allocated a build slot and they could not change this without canceling the order (at a cost to us). So never mind, stuck with the older engine.

Look at it this way, if you do delay the car to September production to get the new engine, it might not be delivered until December or later!

I drive the "old" 2007 520d version and although it has been remapped to 195 hp it still feels sluggish below 2500 rpm. Not convinced the 177 hp version will do any better at lower revs though. We may have to wait for the 523d to be completely satisfied. And as my car can stretch up to 1050 km between two fillings I am not really bothered about the alledgedly amazing fuel economy of the new engine.

Mine should be one of the first on the road in the UK, after waiting what seems a life time (nearly three months), I have secured a week 36 production car, for delivery in early October. Anyone expecting their car before that date in the UK will likely get the older engine!

With the emission changes meant I would save over ?50per month over the old engine in company car tax, that was enough coupled with the extra power and new gearbox to wait the 3 months.

I can't wait, pictures will follow, to include the engine bay!

Yes that is the list price for the standard car, half leather and 18" wheels with M kit.
The E220cdi can not really be compared if its a company car, the 520d emmisions are 136 vs 160 g/km for the 220cdi

Red face

yeh our totally right, the merc is a joke, no matter what engine you have.

I was checking on the web and dealers online, and noticed that the 520d is more pricer then the 525ds, 2004, is that because the 520d came outr later than the 525d, and 530ds

Just surfing at the moment, whole weekend off work.
