Sad to say but the new fine 3.0 diesel engine (Euro5-6 and 180 kW/245 hp and 520 Nm)
will not be available for the MY '09 E60/61, the "old" 530d engine is still there.
Only the LCI E90/91 and the F01 (7-series) will get it.

But the 5-series will get the new iDrive and with Pro nav the new 8,8 inch screen
(see

All xDrive cars will get a "xDrive" tag on the cars sidewalls.
See the PDF here.
Thank's for sharing Brettski.

No new wheels either, but there will be a new set for the M6,
and that could well fit the E60 as well (no pics available yet).

Also no other mayor changes, but BMW do improve their cars all the time...

So there will be no more 530d? Another reason for me to order a X6 35d... 530d is outdated...

Yes, but with the older engine (Euro4, 235 hp and 500 Nm).

But nothing should stop you from ordering the X6 35d!

(I don't know when the X6 will get the new fine 245 hp 3.0d.)

Many people have stated that the new iDrive and NAV will be integreated into the '09's, but not at start of production. Obviously, this is all speculation for now -- if you ask BMW NA and BMW dealers (and John Spira) they're still saying there will be no change to the 5's for MY 09. I think that catalog speaks against that. Also, BMW has even said the 6's and all M's for the US will have new iDrive/HD nav. Unless of course BMW sells '09 5's with the new iDrive and NAV in Germany only, and the current versions in the US -- but now much sense would that make? They just announced that profits tanked last quarter, and US prices are going up....if the technology is there, you'd think this would be a way to entice buyers from other brands, to buy a car such as the E60 which is near the end of it's run.

But anyway -- I'm just wondering if there are other instances of prior BMW's being launched with upgraded equipment appearing in the middle of a model year that wasn't originally available.... anyone know??

I do trust that pdf catalog. Why would BMW fake it (in all the pics) when we all know that the same system is coming to all BMW series.

Remember that in US the model year changes in March each year, so they are "kind off" one half year before (or late) us Europeans...

But let's say then that the September built BMW E60 MY '09 in EU will get the new iDrive
I still wonder why the '09 530d don't get the new engine.
It would suite the EU countries so well with the extremely low CO2 and other emissions.
Maybe the production capacity just doesn't cope, as with the 535i engine?

IE the new M3 E90 had it's "old" tail lights for only some months...(collectors item?)

You should, Brettski , state your whereabouts and make a signature.

Thanks for your insight, Ricracing....... I didn't realize models change in March........ missed that totally. I fell in love with the 5 on my first test drive around February of this year -- did something change in March? Because it seemed like it was the same price/features/engines etc. as in February when I looked again this July.

By the way, I edited my profile and location -- thanks for asking!

Indeed, but the bigger question is when the updated 35d engine (based on the revised 30d) arrives...

This is exactly the same situation as with the previous 530d and 535d where the 530d (218PS -> 231PS) received the updated engine well before the 535d (272PS -> 286PS)... The updated 35d should be knocking on 300PS from the factory...
