Does anyone know if the newly upgraded N52B30 engine (265 hp / 315 Nm)? will be offered to the E60?
It's +7 hp and +15 Nm compared the the current 530i engine offered in Europe.
This engine is now available in the new 130i (0-100 km/h in 6.1 sec.!).
Ignoring for a moment that the IS350 isn't E60 caliber, it is quite fast - faster than the 545i. The GS, which is E60 caliber is nowhere near as potent - in V6 or V8 form.
I understand your point, but the compro-test considered the 330i and the IS350 to be in the same class. I would prefer they be in "the same class" performance-wise regardless of other factors. The 550i should, of course, be faster than the IS350. But the 545i and the IS350 appear to be neck and neck. Of course, here I am comparing an 06 and and 05 car.

What's all this about the IS350 being faster than a 545? No official spec places them as neck and neck, and I've not seen many tests yet, but I'd have to doubt a low 5 second time for 0-60. Lexus stability and traction control isn't really defeatable and would surely get in the way of any spirited stoplight action.
I hadn't, thanks for the heads up. Took a look, surprising numbers if accurate. Maybe once a few more tests are available we'll get to see a pattern and see what the average times look like over a number of tests. I just have some difficulty with a 5.1 second test when the specs I have seen to date seem to imply around 6 or 6.1 for the 0-60 run, but who knows. Fair play to them if it can indeed hit a 5.1 time.
I agree with you exactly. The descrepancies are odd. But, on paper, the IS350 should do 5/.1 if the 545i does 5.2.
I've seen your post of the IS350 and was quite intrigued by it, so off I went and purchased the new Motor Trend with the new cars for 06 issue. And guess what a comparo between the 2 cars(330i vs IS350), guess who won?? yea indeed the 330i with much less horse power!! it won on the track, braking and on the slamon. So all that horsepower in the IS350 is absoltely useless in real driving except from when you come to a stop light and you want to drag race of course!

I think we all agree it's better to own and drive a BMW. However, I trust Car and Driver's numbers. The times the magazine publishes are averages from many runs, going in both directions. The times are also corrected for atmospheric conditions.
If you believe their initial test of the 330i (weighs about the same as the IS350) which showed it was capable of a 5.6 second 0-60, then a 5.1 0-60 time for a car with 50 more "real" hp seems very possible. I think donv and I had a discussion about a tenth of a second improvement in 0-60 per 10hp increase being quite a reasonable expectation...
So what if it's faster than a 545i. I can fill the space on my arm writing the names of cars that are faster and cheaper... but I wouldn't pick any of them over the 5. It's not about that.
