Now JPJ i want to ask you if you know that 225/45 will suit my 135M rim also. I suspect the width of the rim is the same (8"). Thank you.
Should work just fine on the 135 rims -- same size as the 123, just a better looking!

I personally don't like the look of the 123 rims, so that's the main reason I'm using them for winter. Otherwise I would have gone with 17". Once these become my winter wheels, I can convince my wife I need new wheels and tires for summer.

My Ride: 535d Sport, carbon black, media pack, visibility pack, grey leather, heated seats, sun protection glass, voice control, Eibach ProKit, 19" 166 style wheels, e-maps ECU remap to 325hp and 640NM, top speed limiter removed

The Vredestein Wintrac Extreme I am running on my 135 wheels are 225/45/18. Same rolling radius and dia as 245/40 and are perfectly fine.

Had them on last winter already and only good experience. The comfort is grand, higher sidewall with a softer winter tyre. Takes a little of the "throw around" handling, though

Get some 17" wheels and winter tires and save your summer wheels.

Plus, you won't have to pay $80 twice a year to have them swapped over.

This is a stupid question b/c I don't know a whole lot about wheels...here goes:

so there is no problem w/putting 17" wheels + appropriate 17" tire on a 530i w/sports suspension...which, comes standard w/18" wheel and tire?; in the same train of thought there is no problem w/changing the dimension width of the 18" tire as described above?

Look forward to your feedback. Thx.

No problem changing wheel or tire size if you consider a few factors. Primarily have to keep circumference very close to stock -- this makes sure the distance travelled per revolution stays the same as what the car was designed around. So people will talk about the height of the tire or rolling diameter or revolutions per mile, but they are all basically different ways to measure the same thing.

Other factors to consider are making sure a smaller wheel will clear the brakes/suspension, that the tire is recommended to fit the width of the rim, that the tire will not rub anything (if going wider or taller), and that the offset of the wheels is correct. I'm sure there are other things to consider, but these are the ones that come to mind quickly.
