My dealer was telling me a story that some guy ordered a manual E60 and then cancelled at the last minute.? And he said they absolutely could not sell the car.? Dealers are definitely not ordering manuals on their own.? 95% of the time, a special order, I'd guess.

In the UK at least if you buy a manual 530i for example you will have a hard time selling it in the second hand market.

My Ride: Ordered: 2006 530i on Oct 1st, and due Mid Nov. 6 speed Manual, Navagation, Premium pkg, Sport pkg, Cold Weather pkg, Prem. Sound Package, Titanium Silver, Black Dakota Leather, Dark Poplar wood. 18" 7 Spoke wheels (style 123), euro reflectors, Sat Radio installed.

Little bit of an update.

Had a chance to drive a 530 xi automatice, to get a feel for how the 530i sport manual will feel. Dealer had no 530i auto's or sticks, only the xi to test.

It felt pretty quick, not blazing fast, but I am hoping the 530i will have a little more zip. But I as happy with the new engine.

BY the way, is the 06 comparable to the e46 330i in terms of 0-60? They rate the 530i at 6.4. Does it feel as quick as a 5 speed 330i from 2003?

Thanks

JK

How about buying a used (under 10k miles) 545 for 50k? That would have a "little more zip" for sure.

Honestly, I have driven a 6 speed manual, and while I feel more zip with the car, I still wanted to go with the 530i. I truely love ringing out the inline six, and it felt almost as quick as the 545i. Except on the highway, where the 8 cylinder really showed it's extra 60 horses. I could have even had a NJ 545i sitting on the lot, but what it really come sdown to is I want a brand new car with zero miles, and an 06. I like the changes BMW has made, and honestly, that was more important to me than a slightly faster car. Now the 550 is another story, as that truley will be a monster, but the way I would equip it, it would be close to 70,000. So, I think I am set on the 530 for now. Maybe in three years, I will trade up to a 550? But I wanted all the packages and at 56,450, I can't go much higher than that.

Might I also add, I was getting a price of about 60 bucks less if I went with a 330i.

So I feel the 530 is a step up? Would you all agree? Or is the 530 not considered a step up, or is it comparable to a 330i performace wise?

I realize the bigger car will not handle like a 3, but I have heard the 530i Sport Pack makes the car amazing...

255hp and 6 speed still equates to a sporty car. Atleast thats how i percieve it.

If you're looking for more room, get the E60. However, if you want to keep the same driving dynamics, get the new E90. The E60 is a great luxury sedan, but you can't take away from the character of the 3, especially the new E90. I haven't read one negative review yet.

I really think at this juncture, I am looking more at the luxury side of the equation. I have had a 330i the last 3 years, and while its a point and shoot car, I really do want more room when traveling; I find I am sometimes cramped at 6 feet, sitting in the drivers chair. A 5 series seems to be more spacious. But, I will admit, the 5 feels like a biger car, even though it's only 40 lbs heavier than a 3 series. Does anyone else find that truely amazing?

I guess, basically what I am looking for is the power of my old e46, the more luxury lexus like quality I feel the 5 series has.

I would have loved a 550i, but...at 10,000 more, leasing, it would have broke the bank. Also, I am not a true fan of active steering, so thats why I am choosing not to grab that option as well.

Rent a car and wait for the 5 series you will look more sophisticated in a 5, 3 are for kids.

Ask if your dealer could rent you a bimmer for the time being, my dealer does that for me (6 years ago in Canada).
