Another update:

The new CCC worked for 2 days then crapped out again. This time the unit just keeps rebooting... BMW logo > bright flash > black then repeat. Different symptoms from last time, which was just BLACK, but just as useless and annoying. Sending the CCC back for refund now and I am embarking on a CCC to CIC retrofit journey.

Wish me luck... my name will probably soon appear in the retrofit forum.

Please see post #12 above.... CCC was just black and did nothing.

These guys fixed my CCC navigation unit with a new mother board back in early 2015 and have had no problems sense the repair. Give them a call and talk with Bejin. No affiliation.

Thanks for the tip my friend but I ended up going the retrofit route. I bought a CIC through a company called BimmerRetrofit and it has been working like a charm for the last couple of years. I believe the head unit was from a 2005 or 2006 5 series but it looks and works much better than the old CCC. BimmerRetrofit was very helpful throughout the the whole installation and I highly recommend them.

I tried to follow your advice and speak with Bejin but couldn't get past the receptionist who could only quote me a price of $650 but knew nothing else. I'm not comfortable not knowing more so passed on these guys.
