They told you that the headlights couldn't be done or the daytime running lights?
If they're only talking headlights, then they're correct but the next best thing is to have the DRLs programmed. That, they CAN do so if they're saying they can't, find a better dealer or tell them to get some assistance from BMW...

In the US you might not have been able to turn off or on, daytime running lights until the 2008 model.

I have an '07 and I can turn the DRL's on and off through I-Drive.
1. The dealer will program it to your car - you can't choose any other options, so if you don't want it any longer you have to reinstall it by the dealer
2. Your SW is V25 or higher, than you will get the option in i-drive by clicking DRL yes/no
Ask another dealer respectively your dealer have to ask BMW
go for it...

My 2005 545i is at the dealer for general service. Is it possible to have them program the headlights to always be on when the car is on....like a Saab or Volvo? I am a firm believer that driving with lights on day or night is safest. Should be a simple thing for them to do right. What I would like is to be able to leave the light switch on - turn the car off and everything goes off.
Thanks!

Make sure to put your helmet on before you put it in drive.
