hey everyone,

first time im posting here. recently purchased pre-owned 06 530i and im having some problems. im getting a more than noticable vibration when stopped, in gear. once i release brake and accelerate vibration stops with no other problems. the vibration is NOT coming from braking, it begins once the engine begins to idle. vibration fades in and out and doesnt directly increase or decrease with air conditioning (thought it was compressor at first) although i do feel as though it may intensify when a/c is on high, cant really tell either way. any help would be appreciated.

thanx

it sounds like your car is starving for air when idling... are your rpm's fluctuating? what's the rpm's when it's idling, is it under 500? have you checked your air filter? you probably have carbon buildup in your throttle body and intake. they have spray cleaners for those at auto parts.

welcome to the e60 club!

just started it up and i am noticing that the rpm's are fluctuating btwn 700 and 500, is that low? also, when the vibration fades in and out i notice the rpm's decrease/increase accordingly. once again any help would be appreciated. i apologize in advance but im not much of a mechanical guy, basic electrical and common DIY stuff only, so my questions may be a bit pedestrian.

thanx

I am not sure you want to tackle this problem yourself. This is something you need to have resolved at the dealership. Let them figure it out.
FYI, all 3 of my E60's idle(d) between 500-600 rpm.

And welcome to the forums.

yeah your car is definitely being choked off. idle should be rock steady right around 500 rpm's. i would check in this order:

1. dirty air filter and carbon buildup (throt body, intake, idle bypass valve)
2. vacuum leak
3. dirty fuel filter
4. mass air sensor (prob get ck engine light)

my money's on carbon buildup... let us know how it goes.
