Hey guys,

As you know, I just purchased my 545i (2004) SMG

My only concern is now.

Is when brake very lightly it works, but sometimes it doesn't let me brake hard.

I mean the brake pedal get's all stiff, and my car continues to roll slowly not stopping at ALL.

Best described as when you start the car and put your foot on the brake pedal

I'm not sure if I'm making any sense here.
But this is my first euro car, and I really don't know what to look for.

My brakes are all good, and I checked my dash if everything read ok and I found no problem at all.

What can I do??
Does the 545 have this common problem?

Please help, I really don't wanna drive the car and it won't fully stop when my two kids are in the car!

Thanks and any input would definitely help

when was the last time you bleed the brake? I suggest you bleed the system and re-fill with new fluid.

My first initial thought was you may have air bubble in your system which prevent pressure to build up correctly...either that or water may have gotten in which causes your fluid to fail.

Ok,

So what are my options here?

Get my Brake fluids flushed out and get it topped up?
Or
How do I get this water out my brake system??

Brake fluids? Any particular type...?

How can I get this resolved

Please note, I'm not an expert when it comes to the E60. I've been owing mine for a bit more than 2 years and am still learning on the job.

Call your local BMW and see if your vehicle may be affected by a bad brake vacuum pump.

I got a recall letter (as did a lot of members) last November titled: Recall Campaign No. 10V-446 Brake Vacuum Pump. In this letter, it gives a description of the problem as this:

"This issue involves the power assist braking function. A small amount of oil could leak from the brake vacuum pump into the brake vacuum hose. Over time, contamination of the brake booster could occur. This could affect the power assist braking function. In an extreme case, loss of the power brake assist could occur. The service brake control would still be available to slow and stop the vehicle, although this would require greater brake pedal force."

Hope this helps

wow I completely forgot about that recall. I got mine done at beginning of the year.

OP, did you ever get the recall letter? May be you should bring it in but make sure it's just for the recall service only. You don't want to pay the dealer for something else unless you really want to.

Excellent feedback guys!!
Will definitely call BMW first and then follow up with bleeding the fluids!
