i'm kinda new here so please go easy on me. i bought my 2004 530i beginning of year and up til october my key(only got one key) work fine. starting a month ago my single key started to have problems. well now i can't unlock the car using my key. i can; however, lock and unlock the car and trunk using the same key. i took my car to a dealer to see if it's the key or my car that is doing this and they told me that it's the key and i have to replace it. to make thing short, will this key from ebay solve my problem and save me some money cuz the dealer will charge me $190+ for a key...damn them....[/size]

Try these instructions... I got them from a friend who is a BMW Tech like a couple years ago. I never confirmed whether it works or not nor have I heard anyone confirm it but I dont think there are that many people who actually tried it.

Get in your car
press unlock button 4 times
make sure car is unlocked w/ doors closed

turn on ignition
turn ignition back off and take they key out
hold down unlock button and press lock button 3 times
and the locks will cycle if you did it right
for 2nd key just hold down the unlock and press lock 3 times
no need to cycle ign for the second or third keys

Whatever you do ,do NOT buy a key off eBay even if it is the same frequency, your BMW dealer will not be able to re-program it for your car.
These sellers tell you to consult a locksmith first, but you will not find one who can do anything for you.

Really? I did that for my Sister's Audi and it worked fine. Instructions were similar to the ones I posted for BMW.

I'm talking about the remote smart key for the push-button start models.

I read an article by an auto-locksmith claiming that it did also apply to the type of remote key prior to the smartkey but I have no evidence of that.
You are correct in that the type of procedure you described can be used on the bladed keys to program a spare to the car,but that spare has to be a BMW supplied one specific to that car.

Wow that article was very politically incorrect... "Chinese counterfeit copies."
