I came across a comment about a data dump mode that existed on the E39 and I thought I'd try it on my '06 E60. Insert the key, push and hold the odometer reset button, turn the key to position one, then release the reset button.

Some data shows up on the display between the tach and the speedo.. part of it was the 2nd half of the VIN. Pushing reset button repeatedly cycled through a series of information "screens". One item looked like a date, possibly corresponding to when the chassis was put on the assembly line...

Anyway, I thought it was interesting...

Cheers, Jon.

I'll try that in the morning. I faintly remember the service advisor doing the same thing.
