Navigation Updates

My Ride: 2010 535i xDrive, Space Gray Metallic, Gray Dakota Leather, automatic, comfort access, window shades, comfort seats, fold down rear seats, PDC, Navi, HUD, HD Radio, premium package, value package
How often does BMW release official navigation updates? Once a year or more?
Is there a specific time of year the updates are released (month, quarter etc.)
My '10 535XI has the newer style that has to be programmed at the dealer (cannot just buy the DVD from parts).
I checked the current navigation version via i-drive and it looks like my car has never been updated. The car was built in '09 and the current Navi version is shown below
Before I upgrade I'd like to understand how often they come out. It might make sense to wait a bit to get the latest version. Can't seem to get any solid answers from the local dealers.
