Thumbs up

Hi all! First time post I've been contemplating a navigation retrofit on my 2005 E60 9/04 build.

I've read several posts on 2004s and older, but has anyone done a retrofit on a 2005?

Some info on my E60 that might shed some light:
I have bluetooth working fine (all features work with my Motorola V600.)
I have satellite prep listed on my sticker, but nothing with respect to navigation prep.
Anyone got the skinny on it?

And another question regarding phones: The sticker says mobile phone prewiring.
Does that mean all I need to do is buy the cradle for my V600?
I would like to be able to charge the phone and utilize the sharkfin if possible.
Is this easy? Would I have to pick apart the whole center console?
Anyone know the price?

as i ALWAYS recommend, please get the garmin street pilot.
better system, much cheaper, can be moved for car to car.
1 word 'INCREDIBLE'.

that system is fool proof.

Ya either that or the C320. Waiting for that to come out. That way I can move it from car to car like you said.

I think there are several aftermarket products that would work great - however, I want to keep the clean look inside the car and am willing to pay the price for a cleaner integration. I completely agree with you on the convenience and price, rollee, but if the retrofit is easy for a dealership to do under $1800, then I'm game.

I was curious if anyone has performed the retrofit - or if it was at all possible on an '05. I was going to give a call to my local dealer, but I won't be able to do that until Tues, so I thought I'd consult the 'real' experts on this forum first If the dealer gives me a load of bull, then I might contact BMWNA Customer Relations to see if its possible.

i think it is possible, however the prohibative part is not the technology or wiring but cost.
i agree the appeal of a flushed/integrated look of the built in system.
let us know your finds, best of luck. cheers!

My car is an April 2004 build and I have been considering the Nav retrofit. Here is what I have found from posts on this forum and my own investigation. This applies to US market cars.

BMW has a kit to retrofit Nav to cars with build dates from 10/2003 to 12/2003. It seems that the DVD Nav was not available then and these cars were built with option 6UA - Nav Prep. The kit is available for installation at $1800 until May 31, 2005. This is the same price as the Nav option if ordered with the car. The part number for the kit is 65 90 0 390 844.

My SA tells me that my car is not eligible for the retro because of my build date. Since Nav was available when my car was built, no program is being offered by BMW NA for the retrofit. This sounds fair but I still wonder what exactly is Option 6UA?

From what I have read it is the GPS antenna in the shark fin and the antenna wiring to the dash area. My car, as all US cars, has the telephone antenna and the GPS antenna in the shark fin (Also the antenae for the satellite radio if so equipped). And the antenna wire for nav and non-nav cars is the same part number according to the BMW parts data. On the BMW Assist screen in i-Drive I can see the longitude and latitude of my car. Something is receiving GPS, probably the M-ASK module.

I have seen the BMW bulleting about adding Nav to non-prepped cars but this applies to other markets. If I have the GPS antenna and the wiring what else is included in option 6UA and can I get NAV retro fit to my car?

Can anyone help? In the meantime I am using a Navman iCN510. This is an excellent unit but I want the built-in look.

You should check with your local dealer. The info I got was from my SA but he is still checking. It seems the situation is not completely clear. I'll let you know if there is anything new but for now my dealer's position is that I'm not eligible.
