OK, but can you use voice command to enter each letter of the place, street etc similar to the phone number voice command or do you have to twirl the I-drive knob for each letter?

Twirl away. It's pretty quick.

Fortunately, adaptive text entry is used. This means that only letters that 'could' be there will appear; you don't have to deal with selecting from the entire alphabet. E.g. If you've twirled in "A" for the first letter of a city or street name, "A" would not appear as the second selectable letter if no street names are found that start with "AA".

Clear as mud?

Don't forget about the time-saving zipcode entry method. Instead of spelling out the name of the city, you can scroll past the letter 'Z' and numerically enter a 5-digit zipcode...

One day BMW will be able to do it too, but it will take those engineers a decade, I think, to figure out how MB is doing it...
