I've had mine for 4 years and never updated and I never had a problem...

I live in Washington DC suburbs and upgraded from 2005-2 to 2007-1 ... I haven't noticed any major differences, just a few updates on new roads. Also noticed that they changed the icons for points of interest. It is probably not worth paying for an update ...

I suppose it works fine...some rural addresses have not been in my system. But, how often do you guys get a new DVD or have you ever? I suppose BMW charges for the new disk...do you know how much?
Thanks.
Thanks.

I've had issues in Loudon County a few times but all in all, IMO, its not worth the ~$200 for a new disk. The problem is that the disk becomes dated as soon as it is released. You can't stop construction.

The discs are available directly from NavTeq, which supplies the DVDs to BMW for the US, and perhaps all other places. I believe the cost is ~$200. Interestingly, for the same data supplied by NavTeq to BMW you can pay Garmin $75 to update most of their free-standing GPS vehicle units. Again, the data is supplied to Garmin by NavTeq.
I think I'd wait to do an update for about two years. NavTeq says they have a staff of people running around the world updating streets, etc., but translating raw data into something which appears on the central screen in your BMW has got to be a lengthy process.
